STA Highlander Match Writeup vs =TP= on cp_furnace

Monday, November 30, 2009

This was a very close match; the scores for AD maps often don't tell the story since you either win the round or lose it. Both teams chose to largely ignore one of the first two points and concentrate their forces guarding the other. Round 1 started with us defending, so we piled on the point and got ourselves all set up. We managed a pretty decent hold, repelling a number of their assaults until they finally managed to kick us off of the point with a couple minutes to spare. Once it was clear that we wouldn't retake it we moved to C to try and get set up there. Our forward D did a great job of popping their ubers early and gave great incoming calls. We managed to hang on by the skin of our teeth, holding them to 2 caps. Our offense wasn't looking quite so good. We quickly took the unguarded point only to run up against a brick wall. Time after time we banged our heads against it to no effect, until finally we had under a minute to go. By some miraculous stroke of luck we managed to pick off their med and get the gun down, slowly forcing them out of their trenches. We kept the pressure on and managed to cap in overtime to keep things alive. Fortunately for us they fought tooth and nail to keep us from capping that point, leaving them somewhat unprepared for our assualt on C. We stormed in there and capped in a minute and a half, stealing the round from them. Round 2 we started on O and knew we might have to work the stopwatch for a win, so we piled onto the first point to cap it as fast as possible. Unfortunately we hit that same wall at the second point that we did in the first one, only this time (after a few very close calls) they held fast, keeping us to a single point. Defensively our quick first cap payed off, as we knew we only had to delay them slightly on the first point to avoid a stopwatch victory for them and then somehow manage to hold them at the second. What followed was one of our most impressive defensive coordinations to date. Our forward classes did a fantastic job of breaking up their grouping and blowing their ubers early, leaving those of us up on the point on cleanup duty for any stragglers. A couple of nice pushes by them came very close but we managed to hold strong and squeek out the win. GG TP, can't wait for our next match :)

STA 8v8 Match Writeup vs .gr on ctf_impact2

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

This was part two of our double header against gr and fortunately for us our general impact strat is much more productive when we can use multiples of certain classes (scout, spy, demo, soldier). We really are a CTF clan at heart and the results here highlight that. gr put up a good fight and healthily outfragged us in both rounds. GG guys, we look forward to our next meeting!

STA Highlander Match Writeup vs .gr on ctf_impact2

Monday, November 23, 2009

This was a good, hard fought match with a lot of back and forth fighting and plenty of flag movement. R1 our D held very well letting out only one cap. The flag moved a bit but that's part of our strat, allowing us to lock down other parts of the base. On offense we saw plenty of flag movement but kept having them return on us, even though we pulled it out to their ramp room, and even the yard once. Frustrating stuff, but we still came out on top with two caps. R1 both teams jumped out of the gate and got a quick cap before the defenses were fully set up. We followed that up with a pretty steady flow of caps, usually having their flag on the move somewhere. Our extra attention on O caused our D to slacken a bit and we let a few more caps out than we're usually happy with. They also capped in the last 10 seconds to get their fourth. All around a good game and we're looking forward to the rematch tonight :)

STA Highlander Match Writeup vs [DJedi] on cp_granary

Monday, November 16, 2009

We actually did better than expected and capped a couple points, held some others for a while and played pretty well. When you're outmatched, you're outmatched, so the end result was pretty inevitable. GG DJedi.

STA Highlander Match Writeup vs |K}{R| on cp_yukon

Monday, November 09, 2009

Another fun match from our good friends in KHR, although this one was rather one-sided. Round 1 went by very quickly as we rolled through the points with some pretty good battles, but nothing to slow us down too much. Round 2 we switched some of our guys around to alternate classes for some match experience, since sometimes we worry that we're not dynamic enough in the classes that everyone can play. KHR made some changes themselves and this made to a much closer mater. Although we were still the only team to score, they took us to the wire a number of times. Long fought battles all over the match and we ended by hitting the time limit this time. GG KHR, fun as usual :)

STA 8v8 Match Writeup vs |Ex| on cp_badlands

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Ex fielded their A team tonight and it made a pretty huge difference. We were quite evenly matched on Monday but with the addition of a couple premier players they had us back on our heels most of the time. We did manage to get a couple of caps though, which we were pretty happy with. GG Ex, hope we meet again soon (in highlander ;)

STA Highlander Match Writeup vs |Ex| on cp_badlands

Monday, November 02, 2009

Our scheduled team didn't show, and neither did Ex's, so we decided to play each other in an official match instead. Our two teams are remarkably evenly matched and both rounds had an awful lot of back and forth movement ranging over all points. Round 1 we came storming out of the gate and managed to beat them back a couple of times for 2 caps. They came with a very strong push at the end of the round but ran out of time while assaulting the last point (we were counting down the seconds!). Round two they continued on in the same vein, pushing us hard and getting a couple of caps for their efforts. We managed to sneak one out in the middle of the round to give us the winner. GG Ex, look forward to a rematch tonight :)
