A Brief History

Active Resistance began over a decade ago when it was founded in November of 1997 by Violence and Force. This was back in the day when ICQ Chat Rooms were the way to talk amongst your clan-mates. It's first official match was played on March 8th, 1998 vs. Clan 186.

Force entered the reserves around the same time and one of our newest members, Fyredancer, was handed the reigns to the clan on March 14, 1998. Force wasn't gone, however with the situation it was deemed best for someone who could commit more time to the clan be given day to day leadership.

In early March of 1998 clan [AR] merged/absorbed Clan HoG (Hand of God) which included a handful of players, one of which was Cardinal who still plays to this day with us in TF2. With these additions recruited was halted and we joined the All Out Odd tournament which played such maps as canyon1, bam4, well6, street1 and svalley2 just to name a few. However quickly the tourney was put on hold due to clans disbanding or dropping out of the tournament, therefore we joined the Ironglove League.

Once May rolled around [AR] was accepted into the IGL which was run by Helmut at the time. We joined the Western Division with clans such as -V-, FC, ATF, CIAB, XP, vo, BK, ICE, tF and T. The first match within this league was played vs. tF on well6, however [AR] outnumbered them 10-7 which made for a solid 1897-541 final score. Back then frags were counted towards the final score and each cap awarded the players of the scoring team a 10 point bump (so for 10 members, 100 points).

In June clan MN disbanded and we picked up some of their members, Prowler, DarKMagiK and Bufbil.

We played out our days in TF until it eventually folded once the source code was released. If I remember right all of a sudden Heavy Weapons Guys were flying across the map at the speed of a scout, and the general demise of TF was at hand. The members stayed close and awaited the next team fortress game to be released, and Q3F was our calling.

Fyredancer continued to lead the charge for [AR] as Q3F was released sometime late in 2001 (if anyone has a more exact date, please inform me). It took some time to get the old members back together, but afterwards we joined up.

We played Q3F pretty much right up to the end where 2v2 matches were commonplace and 9v9 matches were non-existent. We looked at ETF as a possible reinvigoration of our members, however that mod died out as quickly as it began and our TF needs were left unsatisfied.

Fyredancer and Violence pushed many of us to look into World of Warcraft and after much convincing many of us did. The clan name was altered a bit for the different style of game and named Ancient Resistance. However quickly Fyredancer and Violence were unable to put much time into the game and Cardinal was awarded with the leadership. After three years of Warcraft many of us longed for the days of Team Fortress and with TF2 our dreams were realized. Those of us from "back in the day" moved on and left Ancient Resistance in the capable hands of longtime WoW members. Ancient Resistance still lives on today, playing on the Bonechewer server.

Today we play within the Stronger Than All 8v8 League and many of the old TF/Q3F members are still part of the squad. Python now leads the charge as Cardinal has passed on the torch after three years of leading a successful WoW campaign.
